Abstract: This book contains three separatley published works in one volume. Gaspard Bauhin was a Swiss botanist and anatomist (1560-1624). Developed a “descriptive science without the aid of a general system of comparative morphology,” Each plant has a generic and a specific name. this binary nomenclature, thought to be developed by Linnaeus, is perfectly maintained by Bauhin. Clusius, de l’Ecluse (1526-1609), depicted a remarkable interest in an orderly arrangement of the plants he was portraying, paying a detailed attention to natural affinities and structures of plants and flowers alike. Aelius Everaard van Voorst obituary is appended to de l’Ecluse’s. Finally, Prosper Alpini’s first work on the plants of Egypt mark the end of the book, which was a direct result of the latter’s travel through Egypt and the Greek Island from 1580 through 1583. The woodcuts of this publication strike with their detail and quality of the impressions.
